The Messier 22 (M22) cluster, often called the Sagittarius Cluster, is one of the most stunning globular clusters in the night sky. Located roughly 10,000 light-years away, it is one of the closest globular clusters to Earth and is packed with approximately 500,000 stars. It is one of only four globular clusters in the Milky Way known to contain a planetary nebula (designated GJJC1), which is a rare phenomenon for these star groups. Under ideal dark-sky conditions, M22 is actually visible to the naked eye as a faint, fuzzy patch. Through a small telescope, it appears as a brilliant, elliptical ball of stars, roughly the same apparent size as a full moon.
