“My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

As the Beehive Cluster quietly shines across the vastness of space, it serves as a reminder that the same Creator who set these stars in motion is near, present, and faithful to sustain all things.

Messier 44 — often called the Beehive Cluster — is one of the nearest and most radiant open star clusters visible from Earth. Nestled within the constellation Cancer, it lies approximately 577 to 610 light-years away and has been recognized since ancient times as a soft, mist-like glow in the night sky.

This cluster is home to roughly 1,000 stars, loosely bound together by gravity and spanning an estimated 15 to 23 light-years across. Though known for centuries, it was Galileo Galilei in 1609 who first revealed its true nature, resolving the hazy light into a multitude of individual stars through his telescope.

In a remarkable modern discovery, astronomers identified two exoplanets — Pr0201b and Pr0211b — orbiting Sun-like stars within the cluster in 2012, marking the first time planets were confirmed in such an environment.
